Stories

The most recent story added to Fallen But Not Forgotten tells about the life of Pfc. Hubert L. Hughes who was from Tennessee and served with the 117th Infantry Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division (Old Hickory). Hubert Hughes is buried at the cemetery side by side with his brother Carl E. Hughes, who died in Italy. You can find the story at the website in the Stories section.

June 28th 2008 the cemetery was visited by a veteran of the 611th Graves Registration Company, the company, led by Captain James Shomon, which had the horrendous and harsh  task of registering and interment of the fallen U.S. Servicemen and –women at the Ninth Army Military Cemetery, now known as the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial at margraten.

The name of the 611th veteran is Mr. Herbert E. Hacket and he was greeted at the cemetery by the ABMC Staff, a delegation of the “Akkers van Margraten”-project and by the webmasters of Fallen But Not Forgotten. Mr. Hacket proved to be a vivid and talkative man with a warmhearted appearance. You can find this story soon in the News section, but here we would like to post a picture of Mr. Herbert Hacket while he visited the cemetery.
